can't crush sliced watermelon, didn't try with ice December 14, 2008

With all the reviews, I figure it should be able to handle crushed watermelons right? Not always, I have to keep shaking it to do some thing that simple. Haven't tried it with ice yet. Not hopeful

What a great blender! It's everything I could ask for - beauty, simplicity, and POWER! Works better than any other blender I have used (I've been used to cheaper ones, but this one even beats up my mom's old Oster beehive I loved so much growing up.) I use this mainly for smoothies with ice, frozen fruits, etc. It tears the ice and frozen fruit up in seconds. I love the sleek black and silver base. It comes apart easily for cleaning in the dishwasher. I wish all my appliances were this well-made. But, like everything in life, take good care of this appliance and it will thank you.

1/2 horse power is only a little over 300 watts? so this blender has less power than a $10.00 blender not sure where the Power is coming from???

LOVE THIS BLENDER November 26, 2008
I have owned this blender about 6 months now. I make smoothies, and diet shakes with ice. It works wonderfully. No chunks of ice, fruit. Blends very smooth. It has only 2 speeds, but you won't need any more than that. I alternate the speeds when crushing the ice in the shakes/smoothies. It is VERY powerful, so it is loud, but it isn't on that long, so don't worry about the noise, because it works very fast. I can make up to 3 shakes at a time, that is 3 cups of water and then some powder. I highly recommend this blender. You can't beat the price.

Oster BPSTO2 Professional Series Blender November 23, 2008
Despite the numerous reviews complaining about noise, I found this blender to be no worse than the old one (Kitchen Aid) I had. It works well. I was surprised at the rather light weight housing of the base, much lighter than my previous blender. As I have only had it for a month, it is premature to speculate about durability. The soft plastic lid has good and bad features: the good is that it requires no gasket, which usually wear out. The bad is that when pureeing hot soups, the lid "softens an deforms" enough so that the removable dome is in danger of coming out. So the procedure of holding a dish towel over the lid when blending hot foods is necessary. A criticism of the housing is its textured surface, which seems unnecessary and is a bit harder to clean than other surfaces.
