5 out of 5 stars Clothes Fanatic   January 30, 2006

The Corby 5500 is a must have for anyone concerned about daily clothes maintenance. This presser works better than I originally anticipated. It even puts a new crisp crease in cotton slacks (although to get the best effect you should do both sides). On wools it works even better. You won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Presser Review   January 30, 2006

I have been using a pants presser since 1990 after returning from a visit to London. My hotel roon had one. I bought this one for my son-in-law. He loves it.
Only difficulty was the first one arrived damaged in shipment. Amazom was SUPER in replaceing it, no questions, they simply wanted to keep the customer happy. I am. Well Done Amazon.

4 out of 5 stars Damaged Product   January 16, 2006

The product works fine. I ordered the more exprensive one after I read reviews from others on Amazon. My husband likes the presser. It does a good job pressing his pants. However, it was damaged in the box when we received it. We decided it was too much trouble to send it back. The box was torn and the presser had a chuck knocked out of it.

5 out of 5 stars great pants presser   September 30, 2005

This is the 3rd presser I have bought. This is the only one I bought that has a dial and not push buttons. I actually like this one better. It works smoothly.

1 out of 5 stars Cheap Look and Arrive Scratched   September 29, 2005
3 out of 5 found this review helpful

The package arrives with some scratches, and a loose screw--the screw goes into the particle wood board, and the thread of the wood is bad, so it cannot be tightened. It looks like a refurbished item, but perhaps it is because of the poor packaginig. There is no plastic cover, or other cushin materials beside the cardboard box.

The whole thing look astonishingly cheap and badly put together. I ordered the "original" model, thinking that this may look more decent than some cheaper version. Unfortunately I was wrong. What surprised me was, this looks no where near the sleek Corbys I used in European hotels. The particle board construction is just awful. A corner of the board came off during shipping, and the stick-on fake-wood surface of one side of the board is now loose.

Furthermore, the wall mounting kit is not included in the box. According to the instruction manual, you have to order the wall-mount kit separately. This was not clear in the product description. My original intention was to mount it in the closet. Given the cheap look of the product, I say hinding it in the closet is the only configuration!

My first inclination is to return the product. But my time is too valuable to bother with repackaging the product and calling UPS and wait for them to pick up the package. So, I am going to test the thing for a couple of weeks, and if it at least presses well, I will just keep it and order a wall-mount kit from the company and repair the damage with some glue.

So, how's the test going? Well, after two days, the press seems to work well on wool and other permanent press fabrics, but works poorly on cotton pants. So, it pretty much limit its use to people who has to wear suits or tailored pants to work, which I do. So it is a keeper, albeit an ugly one. However, I have no confidency how long the thing will hold up. It is too badly put together to last long.

***********Update***********
I finally turned this one in and exchanged for the 3000. Which looks sleek, and works well. The 3000 only has one power on button, for perhaps 30 minutes, so you can't set different time. But that does bother me at all. I like the 3000 a lot. I might buy a second one for my office. I think Corby might be better off to discontinue the "original" line.
