4 out of 5 stars For coffee lovers only   October 1, 2002

This product has a number of negative aspects to it, particularly if you're accustomed to the Mr. Coffee style makers. You have to boil water separately. You have to use a coarse grind of coffee. You have to manually pour the water into the container, stir, wait five minutes, and then manually press the plunger to the bottom of the container. Cleaning the coffee press involves considerably more than tossing a paper filter in the trash and rinsing out the basket. The coffee press will not keep your coffee warm for you.

The one thing it has going for it is the ability to make one of the finest tasting cups of coffee you've ever had.

If you value convenience over quality, if you typically get your coffee out of a can, if you actually like coffee made according to the directions on the side of the can, if you ever drink instant coffee, this is not the coffee maker for you.

If you're willing to sacrifice time, convenience, and economy for the sake of a wonderful, rich cup of coffee, you will not be sorry about purchasing this coffee press.

5 out of 5 stars For real coffee lovers   August 11, 2002

No, it doesn't really make eight cups of coffee. Yes, it takes more effort and work both to make the coffee and clean up afterward. But ... the taste of coffee from a coffee press far surpasses coffee from a coffee maker that tastes stale and burnt after 10 minutes. The coffee in this press is not filtered, which means you drink the REAL thing--you get the full, genuine flavor of good-quality coffee beans (and bad, if that's what you choose to buy).

Highly recommended if you're genuinely interested in real, full-flavored coffee, rather than Americanized coffee-water.

5 out of 5 stars Bodum a winner!   June 18, 2002
After searching high and low, I came across this fine coffee maker. The Bodum Cambord 8-cup coffee press is a breeze to use and makes a fine cup of coffee.

The pros:
- easy to use
- easy to clean
- delicious coffee
- wonderful presentation with it's classic design

The cons:
- 8 cups isn't really 8 cups. They count a cup to be 4oz so it's more like 4.

You really can't go wrong with this one!

3 out of 5 stars Not Enough!   February 23, 2002

I bought the "8" cup coffee press before Christmas to replace a press that had broken.
To me eight cups was plenty; however, I did not realize that the definition of a cup was four ounces. This may be correct for cooking, but when you pour a cup of coffee you expect more.
If I knew that the press was this small, I would not have purchased it. At the time a larger model was not offered.
I now have to purchase the larger one to handle my needs.
I would recomend that Amazon use a more realistic description for those of us who are not that familar with measurements.

This is a nice product, BUT it is not "8-cup" capacity. It is 32 oz., which in my book has always been 4 cups. If you need 8 cups this is not the item to order.
