4 out of 5 stars Convenient and accurate   October 9, 2008
I first tested the product with boiling water, then cold to determine how accurate. No problem there, accurate to the degree and when used was very easy to read and program.

1 out of 5 stars Out of Box Failure   October 1, 2008
Alarm for timer and temperature failed to function right out of the box. I called the importer (Maverick) and they wanted me to mail everything back to them at my cost for an evaluation. I'm just going to count this buying decision as a total loss because I don't want to gamble the additional shipping cost on another out of box failure.

4 out of 5 stars Works Really Well for Smokers   September 23, 2008
This dual probe is very nice and works well.

I like to max out what I put in the smoker, which often means cooking different meats and poultry. Having the two probes makes the whole operation a no-brainer. Operating this unit does require a slight learning curve. For instance, you have to turn on the probe FIRST, or the base will not connect with it. Not a big deal, but does require a cursory glance at the directions.

This unit is much better suited for slow cooking meats in your smoker. If you're looking for a grilling thermometer (burgers, steaks, chicken breasts, etc.) - keep it simple and go with a really high quality instant read model.

I purchased this thermometer as a replacement for another one we had that broke. This one is worse than the last one. The remote sensor never did work and now that we've had it for a couple years, it won't give an accurate temperature. Tonight, I checked the temperature of a pork tenderloin that had been in the oven for more than the recommended amount of time (45 minutes for a 2 lb. tenderloin) and the temperature went from 140 to 103 to 123 to 149 to 119. In a matter of 10 seconds. Then the fun started, it started blinking L L L - I have no idea what it means, but it's been doing that for the past year or so.

I'm just not impressed. I'm actually on Amazon looking for a better thermometer that will last us more than 18 months.

Just used breifly, but the only issue I had was that there was a 1 degree difference between the two temp probes.
