3 out of 5 stars Oster 3212 Food Processor   December 27, 2007

The Oster 3212 does a fine job of slicing and shredding, the almost exclusive use I make of it. It uses just one blade that you turn over to switch between slicing and shredding, which I would call a convenience.
However, that one blade is sandwiched between two pieces of plastic that start to separate from each other, causing its hexagonal shape shaft to round out and eventually just spin freely instead of turning with the motor. I bought a replacement blade from an authorized parts place (rather than look for the receipt to see if it's still under warranty) and found the new blade parts were loose and separating to begin with. I glued them together for longer lasting performance, something Sunbeam should have done to begin with.
Eventually I dropped the cover onto my tile kitchen floor and broke off the tab that allows it to lock and operate. Fortunately, there is a tab on the cover back that also allows it to operate with the opening in the back instead of the front, but that tab does not always keep sufficient lock and the processor often just stops, forcing me to unlock the cover and bowl to try for a better connection. I will soon replace the unit with a top rated Kitchenaid.

5 out of 5 stars Quite, efficient and well-priced   August 30, 2007

This is my first ever food processor and I love it. I bought this particular model because it's a Consumer Reports "Best Buy" for quality and price. I love to cook and can't believe how having a food processor has simplified food preparation, from slicing as well as chopping fruits and vegetables to mixing together various cheeses for pimento cheese spread. This processor is extremely quite, nearly inaudible, and the size is perfect. The only thing I would change is I wish the slicer gave me some options. There are times I would prefer thicker slices than I get with the one option. Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this processor.

There are a lot of things I like about this Oster Inspire model, mostly I like the sleek industrial design that looks really great on your countertop. And its a good thing, because at FIFTEEN LBS you wont be removing this thing to the cabinet, or visa versa, very often.

I also like the extra sharp cutting blade, but I dont like the fact that it arrives with no blade guard, and wedged into the styrofoam packaging so tight you basically have to hammer it out of the package while making sure the exposed blade doesnt slice your toe off. I also like the plastic storage case for all the many accessories, but I dont like the abridged manual with its complete lack of illustrated instructions. Dont believe me, download the manual above, its cryptic and incomplete. However, on the flip side it makes me laugh that the English manual is 6 pages, while the French and Spanish manuals are a whopping 8 pages long! haw haw

But, when it comes right down to doing its job, this is the best food processor I've ever used. Its powerful, and makes quick work out of virtually any kind of vegetable, fruit, or meat, and cleanup is a breeze. But dont get too excited about the "gourmet french fry" cutter, unless you like your fries cut to one inch lengths.

Oster also includes a booklet titled "The Art of Food" which I was quite sure had a collection of recipes that benefited from a versatile food processor, but to my dissapointment all I got was a collection of random recipes from pork chops to pizza to even donuts that merely encourage you to use other Oster kitchen products. And alas, if you were wondering....yes, this machine was Made in China. (harrumfff snort growl)

Overall I give this beautiful device a 5 for the design, and 2 1/2 for Oster's irresponsible packaging and crappy documentation. 4 Onions
