4 out of 5 stars A highly amusing slasher parody   April 3, 2005
I first came across Severe Injuries while searching for films to play in a film festival I organize. Amy Lynn Best and Mike Watt came to the rescue by allowing me to screen Severe Injuries.

The film is an incredibly fun little homage/parody of 80s slasher flicks with some great gags spattered throughout. The cast all do a good job and are obviously having a good time in the process. There's a few shortcomings, which off the top of my head are: a repetitive score, varying audio levels, and some cheap effects (which is understandable due to the nature and budget of the film). But regardless, Severe Injuries is definately a nice treat for horror/comedy fans.

5 out of 5 stars Severe Injuries is great!   March 30, 2005

Severe Injuries is easily one of the funniest horror spoofs I've seen in a long time. The cast were very good and all looked like they had a blast. The dialogue was funny, too.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Flick Everyone Should See   February 11, 2005

Severe Injuries is a great independant film, and unlike some of the indie flicks out there Severe Injuries gives you great acting, great story and plot and a great directoral effort by Amy Lynn Best. If you are into the horror and comedy genre you will love Severe Injuries. Also i would say Amy's performance as Lauren was right up there to the Jaime Lee Curtis's Laurie Strode... And be on the look out for the always great Lloyd Kaufman of Troma as a doctor

5 out of 5 stars The Top Ten ways To Survive A Chick Flick!   January 16, 2005

The slasher spoof started out in 1981 with the ultra hilarious STUDENT BODIES. Since then there have been many pretenders to the throne and they have all failed miserably. From SCARY MOVIE to SHRIEK IF YOU KNOW WHAT I DID LAST FRIDAY THE 13TH. None of them come close to the original. Now we have SEVERE INJURIES with the best tagline: "Be afraid, be barely afraid. Newcomer director Amy Lynn Best does a fantastic job with the material. Seems that a long line of serial killers is about at the end of it's rope. One last proud member to carry on the family tradition. Unfortunately, the family tradition has been one of inept failure. None of these people could harm a fly, let alone kill another human being. This is it. Our fair haired boy has decided to go out with a blaze of glory by committing the ultimate atrocity. That's right, he's going after an entire sorority house. To make it even more fun it seems that there's another serial killer in the sorority house trying to make a name for himself.
In SEVERE INJURIES Amy Lynn Best shows her fondness for the genre as well as the technical expertise to pull it off. Comedy is a tough genre to start with and if you don't get it the jokes can tend to fall flat. Ms. Best stays within her genre of the slasher film and gives us a laugh out loud film. She manages to pull in a few people that make the film a spot the celebrity thing as well. From artist Joe Jusko to Mark Baranowski and his lovely wife Ryli Morgan. Along with Lilith Stabs, Robin Griggs and Debbie Rochon we get a genre flick that never strays from its roots and manages to entertain more than any of the big budget stuff that comes out of the puke hole called Hollywood on a regular basis.

4 out of 5 stars Great Low Budget Comedy   October 21, 2004

I've seen this DVD at a few film festivals and I must say it is a great little movie. It is one of the few indi films that put some thought into plot, character and even stranger... ACTING! yes... the actors can act.... I know... a shock, but true.

If you like indi, and looking for something different, this is the film for you!
