Children who love Robin Williams as the voice of Aladdin or as Mrs. Doubtfire will get a blast out of the show that blasted him into the stratosphere, and made "Nanoo, Nanoo" a national catch-phrase. Mork & Mindy, a spin-off of a season 5 Happy Days episode, was a tailor-made star vehicle for Williams, who won a Golden Globe for this inaugural 1978 season. The role of extraterrestrial Mork from Ork gave free reign to Williams's stream-of-consciousness riffing as Mork observed life on Earth and reported back to his leader, Orson, on all that he learned about friendship, love, family, and emotions. As Mindy, the down-to-Earth Boulder, Colorado, girl who takes the stranded alien under her roof, fresh-faced Pam Dawber does her best to keep up. When Williams is really in the (Twilight?) zone, it's not acting: she does seem like she's dealing with someone from another planet.

The highlight of this first season is "Mork's Mixed Emotions," a tour-de-force that TV Guide ranked among the top 100 TV episodes of all time (#94, to be exact). Mork believes that emotions are bad, and tries to lock them inside himself, but they are unleashed in a lusty, happy, weepy, angry, envious torrent. Helping to launch Williams as a primetime player in the series pilot are Henry Winkler and Penny Marshall in their iconic roles as the Fonz and Laverne. Another notable guest star in season 1 is David Letterman as an abusive EST-like guru in "Mork Goes Erk." Mork & Mindy rapidly jumped the shark, and much of the '70s sitcom trappings have not aged well, but this first season is a giddy time capsule record of Williams at his most spontaneous and out of this world. Shazbot--the set contains no extras. --Donald Liebenson.

5 out of 5 stars Robin - just as I remembed him!   December 17, 2008
When Mork & Mindy first aired in 78, I was hooked. At 10 years old, my crush on Robin Williams began to unfold. As the seasons progressed, I became a complete collector of everything Robin Williams, even to the point of wearing rainbow suspenders to school and making my own Ork spacesuit for Halloween! As a 40 year old adult now, I feared watching these again would only prove my worst fear - that shows we grew up watching in the 70's were funny back then, but too silly to enjoy today. As a die-hard Robin fan still today, I hesitated, not wanting to risk spoiling my fond memories of the show. Boy, was I wrong!! I found myself once again laughing hysterically, (along with my kids!), but this time it was because I got it on more levels than just one. The show is twice as funny to me now as it was back then. Robin's comic genius was so far ahead of his time back then, and this is timeless proof of his unique gift. Bring on seasons 2, 3 and 4! Pop a cork and turn on the Mork!

5 out of 5 stars Great in 78 and a classic in 08   December 7, 2008
Is this really thirty years old? I enjoyed watching this again and my young adult daughter thought it was great as well. There really isn't much that dates this

What a great classic 70's comedy!!! Mork and Mindy is now available on DVD,this great set includes the 1st season's 24 classic episodes!!! And they look and sound graet on DVD!!! No extas though,Shazbut!!! But still,it's a five star DVD set!!! A must for fans of the show or Robin Williams,Pam Dawber,Conrad Janis,Elizabeth Kerr,Robert Donner, and the like!!! Recommended!!! Na Nu Na Nu!!!

5 out of 5 stars Great show for all times!   October 30, 2008
I really enjoyed watching this now as an adult, more so than when I was a teenager. I was able to catch a lot of things I didn't get back then, and needless to say that this is one zany show. Robin Williams was brilliant and there couldn't be a better counterpart than Pam Dawber to handle the crazyness in her own sweetness. I particularly enjoyed the episodes featuring Exodur (did I spell that right?). Only Mork would understand Exodur's mission so well! The sound and overall quality of the DVD is excellent and my recomendation goes to both the old Mork & Mindy's fans as well as the upcoming generation. This is truly good entertainment.

5 out of 5 stars Robin Williams as Mork - funny even then..   September 30, 2008
We have all of the DVDs - our only regret is that the Mork show was only on tv for a few seasons. Robin William in his early days - extremely funny from the beginning and Pam Dauber is wonderful as Mindy too!
