Don't actually own these, but ... September 5, 2008
Don't actually own these, but saw them when looking for other Riedel glasses and wanted to comment.

The purpose of the long stem on a martini glass is to provide a way to hold the glass without warming it with your fingers.

That's because martinis (real martinis - not "chocolatinis" or "tunatinis" or "bazookajoetinis" or whatever comes next) are meant to be sipped very, very cold.

The design undercuts this two ways: it's too large (over 8 ounces) and unless one drains it fast, the contents will be cold, plus the liquid being in the stem will take on heat from the fingers.

Riedel should know better!

the glasses are thinner than most other martini glasses which makes them very delicate and can be easily broken. otherwise they are very pretty

If you like olives as much as you like martinis, this is a great glass, because you can easily fit a pick with a half dozen olives into this glass due to the hollow stem.
