The title Iron Chef comes from the original Japanese title, Ironmen of Cooking.The bamboo steamer is made from all natural bamboo with an authentic handmade Chinese design. The double-woven lid allows the steam to hover in the top while the bottom keeps the vegetables from soaking in water. Handcrafted entirely from bamboo, this traditional Chinese steamer not only looks charming but cooks in a healthy manner without the need of fats. The lid is handsomely woven in a basket style, while the two tiers feature slats across the bottom to let steam rise from a pan of boiling water below. Measuring 12 inches across, the steamer holds generous quantities of potstickers, dim sum, vegetables, and fish, using both tiers together or just one at a time. And, because the steamer retains heat well, it makes a great serving container. Give it a quick scrub after cooking, and it's good to go. The warm honey color of burnished bamboo results from a heating process that caramelizes the plant's natural sugars.
