3 out of 5 stars The forecasts are ridiculously wrong   July 11, 2008
I have this unit and another, more basic Oregon Scientific base unit. This unit has the following features over my other unit: displays a second station (so you can display inside and outside at the same time), a barometer, trend arrows for the various readings (indicating if they are trending up, down or flat) and a "forecast" feature which shows you a weather forecast via an icon. Most of those features are nice (I specifically bought the unit for the second station display), but the forecast function, which takes up a significant portion of the display, is just a joke in my experience (and I've had the unit for several years, so I've seen a lot of bogus forecasts). The other evening it was 98 degrees, about 30% humidity, both temp and humidity trending flat (as indicated by the base station), and what does the forecast show? Rain clouds. Guess what, it didn't rain. :) The unit seems pessimistic, forecasting clouds or rain much more frequently than is realistic. Perhaps that's accurate for Oregon, but not Southern California.

Great item. I love the simple forecast feature. The creshendo alarm is not a creshendo alarm. It's volume never changes! That is what creshendo means: get louder. Disapointed in that point only.

I have it for about two years now, not a single problem with it. I use Energizers Lithium batteries with it.

My unit often fails to receive any signal at all from remote units (even when they are a few inches away, and with fresh batteries in everything) or from the atomic clock. Occasionally it works as advertised. Buyer beware....

Oregon Scientific BAR608HGA Hide-Away Weather Forecaster with Clock
I have had this for some time and works great. It was a replacement for an older one that got dropped by the dog. Old still works but screen doesn't show all features...Very happy with this one!
