Editorial Reviews:

Description
Wines of the World is a comprehensive introduction to four of the world's finest wine-producing regions. Janice Robinson, international television host and first lady of wine, explores the wines and vineyards of Australia, Burgundy, California, and Germany, offering valuable tips on how to find and identify great wine bargains.

Chapter 1: Australian Style. Australia's wine industry dates back over 200 years. Today Australia is one of the world's leading wine exporters, with a well-deserved reputation for producing wines of a quality that match the best that Europe and the United States can offer. In this chapter, Robinson explores Australia's principal wine-producing regions from the Hunter Valley to Barossa.

Chapter 2: Hidden Burgundy. The wines and vineyards of Burgundy are among the hardest to understand. It is home to some of the world's finest, and most expensive, wines. The region also produces undistinguished wines that are often sold at incredibly inflated prices. In this chapter, Robinson explores some of the pitfalls of buying Burgundies, and offers tips on how to identify the best and worst values.

Chapter 3: California Bounty. California is the most important and technologically sophisticated wine-producing region in the United States. Home to a winemaking tradition that spans centuries, it also boasts some of the finest wineries and winemakers in the world. In this chapter, Robinson and legendary winemaker Robert Mondavi explore the world of California wines and their makers as they tour the world famous vineyards of California.

Chapter 4: The White Wines of Germany. In this chapter, Robinson journeys down the Rhine Valley to explore the legendary white wines of Germany. In the process she also explains the incredibly complicated German system of wine classification as well as how to tell great wines from common wines.

Approx running time: 1 hour, 40 minutes.

5 out of 5 stars Great Program   April 22, 2008
This is a great program and an excellent introduction to the world of wine. The program's host, Janice Robinson is a leading authority on wine and the first women to hold the prestigous Master of Wine designation. This was originally produced for the BBC. I remember seeing it on PBS a few years ago.

1 out of 5 stars Welcome back Early 80's   November 27, 2007

This is nothing more than a collection of early 80's documentary film clips. Poor quality, poor content. It reminds me of an old public TV special.
