Product Description
OATHS SWORN . . . loyalties tested . . . forces collide.

Following the colossal battle against the Empire’s warriors on the Burning Plains, Eragon and his dragon, Saphira, have narrowly escaped with their lives. Still there is more at hand for the Rider and his dragon, as Eragon finds himself bound by a tangle of promises he may not be able to keep.

First is Eragon’s oath to his cousin Roran: to help rescue Roran’s beloved, Katrina, from King Galbatorix’s clutches. But Eragon owes his loyalty to others, too. The Varden are in desperate need of his talents and strength—as are the elves and dwarves. When unrest claims the rebels and danger strikes from every corner, Eragon must make choices— choices that take him across the Empire and beyond, choices that may lead to unimagined sacrifice.

Eragon is the greatest hope to rid the land of tyranny. Can this once-simple farm boy unite the rebel forces and defeat the king?

4 out of 5 stars Exceptional, The best title in the Inheristance Series   October 5, 2008
The first novel of the Inheritance series Eragon, was released in 2003. It quickly climbed to the best seller list as an easy to read yet interesting fantasy novel. Unfortunately for the Inheritance trilogy the second novel Eldest was not as spectacular as it read as a remake of Star Wars. Surprisingly Brisingr is an excellent book that is not only original, but better crafted then the other two.

Paolini's writing is stronger, his character's are more interesting, and the book is far more original then its predecessors. Brisingr's 750 pages fly by as creative and entertaining; as well as the best thing to ever happen the Inheritance cycle.

3 out of 5 stars Completely predicatable and linearly boring   October 4, 2008

Tries to be ostentatiously wordy. Only parts of the book I enjoyed were the plot revelations, of that which are about 4 or 5 in this book. The rest is just fluff. And the ending is very anti-climatic and when you're finished you feel disappointed you spend so much time reading. But overall, the action was described well and I enjoyed reading the last two hundred pages...

I give it a 3 because I finished it and didn't totally hate it. Reader beware, you will be bored.

3 out of 5 stars Why so much gore?   October 4, 2008

So far I like the book, but I have one question/concern. Why all the gore. Why start with hands being cut off. And why the trial of the long knives-- I actually felt sick after that chapter. That's as far as I've gotten, but felt that someone should say something. You may want to pre-read this book before your younger child reads it, it's pretty intense. On the other hand in a culture where the sadism of the joker is celebrated in Batman maybe this is now considered normal. But to go on for pages in Paolini's intense, almost purple, writing style is just too much for me. I'm going to read the rest of the story because I genuinely enjoyed the first two-- and because I like dragons and elves, and enjoy Paolini's world. But I really wonder why all this gore???

5 out of 5 stars 3 times the charm (tiny spoiler)   October 4, 2008

I loved it.About half way through, though i started to get worried because i saw how impossible it would be for him to end it well in this book. i was thrilled to hear that there was a 4th one coming. I just wasn't ready for it to end. Christopher Paolini is an excellent writer. His word usage sentence structure and phrasiology add to the fact that it's a well concieved story. I also was thrilled with the additional perspectives used. All in all, it was an enthralling read. Can't wait for number 4!
